Returning to OSU

If you previously attended OSU and would like to resume your studies here, you should contact an international student advisor to discuss any issues related to your immigration status. We recommend you speak to an advisor at least two months before your desired start date so there is time to issue new immigration documents and resolve any issues related to your immigration status.
To make an appointment with an advisor, please contact our main office at (541) 737-3006. You may also reach an advisor by e-mail at intl.advisor@oregonstate.edu. Please enter "Returning OSU Student" in the subject line of your message if you contact our office by e-mail.

Enrollment Eligibility

Depending on your degree level and when you left OSU, you may need to work with other offices on campus to ensure you are eligible to return and enroll in classes again. Undergraduate students should contact the Office of the Registrar. Graduate students should contact the Graduate School. In most cases, students are eligible to enroll again within a term or two of leaving OSU, as long as they were in good academic standing when they left.
If you were outside the country for more then 5 months, your SEVIS record was likely terminated in accordance with regulations government immigration status. If your record has been terminated, you will need to request a new I-20 to return to OSU. Since a new SEVIS record will be created for you, you will need to pay the SEVIS fee again. You may also need to apply for a new visa at a U.S. embassy or consular office.

An international student advisor will review your file and determine whether or not you will need a new I-20. If you do, you will need to complete a Returning Student I-20/DS-2019 Request Form (PDF) and return it to our office, along with financial documentation demonstrating your ability to cover expenses for one academic year (12 months), or the length of your program if less than one year. Current figures for expenses are available on the Office of Admissions's website under Finances and Funding.
