How an intergenic suppression mutation can overcome a nonsense mutation. A nonsense mutation in a peptide gene changes a codon for an amino acid into a stop codon, causing translation to terminate prematurely. Another mutation, in a tRNA gene, can circumvent the first mutation by altering the tRNA anticodon so that it will base-pair with the mutant mRNA. A normal protein is produced in this situation.
