Welcome to OSU Ethnic Studies website.
Learning Through Listening
Welcome to the Ethnic Studies department. I have learned the importance of education for all individuals. I have also learned that the denial of a good education could set social barriers and actually exclude people from having a better life. Latinos and African Americans have been in the margins of society for a very long time and the denial of education has been a vital tool for excluding these people. I believe we have taken the first steps towards finding a solution for decreasing the dropout rate of Latinos and African Americans and many other people by talking about this problem and raising the awareness of this occurrence.
We as members of this diverse and dynamic society must call attention to this problem. We must ask ourselves if we really advocate equal opportunities for all people. We must also ask ourselves if we live and prosper from a racist social structure. Do we benefit from the exploitation of others? We must ask ourselves questions like this in order to find equality for all people.
I recommend that we all take the first step and raise awareness of this serious situation for all people of color and act on it by changing the way we think about life and society. http://www-library.stanford.edu/depts/ssrg/adams/shortcu/chic.html

Working with a variety of different people has been a wonderful learning
experience. We have definitely learned from each other and have taken the
first step in the fight against inequality in society today.
