The Relevance of Research
TASK #3
Philosophical Framework Concepts

Here are the concepts you will research for this task:

Relativism
The Absolute
Objectivity/Subjectivity

You may use any resources available, but do use at least the following sources:

Relativism:  The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy,

Dictionary of the Philosophical Terms and Names
                              The Catholic Encyclopedia

The Absolute:  Dictionary of the Philosophical Terms and Names
                                     The Catholic Encyclopedia
Objectivity/Subjectivity: Dictionary of the Philosophical Terms and Names
                                                             The Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy

Objective: As a result of this activity the successful student will demonstrate the ability to find relevant research sources, analyze their content, and communicate results concerning a philosophical topic.

Step One: Select your Philosophical Framework Concepts page from the table below in order to study the concepts that you will research.

Step Two: Make note of the concepts that you will research. Consider the role that each plays (if at all) in your own thinking. research these concepts by exploring the sources listed on your Philosophical Framework Concepts page.

Step Three: Analyze the results you get from your research. Evaluate the results. For each of the concepts that you researched, write a separate message explaining the results that you found (i.e. what you learned about the concept and how it fits with your Philosophical Framework and your own ideas). Write your messages in the Task 3 Forum (see link below), selecting the appropriate area for your framework.

Step Four: Read at least five Step Three posts made by the other participants in your framework form. Reply to each indicating aspects in which your research results agree or differ.

Please note that this is intended as an exercise in critical reading. Just copying or restating someone's ideas is not valuable here. Your task is to provide a thoughtful explanation and evaluation of the ideas that you encounter. Raise questions, examine arguments, test interpretations, compare claims, draw out assumptions, give examples,
and use any other form of critical reading that you can. This is not a book report. It is a context for your original and genuine thought.
