What to Do

Each practice problem has a button which will bring up a pop-up window with the answer to the problem. In many of the answer pop-up windows, there will also be a section with a full calculation, or a further explanation.

Feel free to discuss problems with your fellow students, be it in person, via email, over the telephone, or using a Hypernews group if one exists. And don't forget about your instructors - their JOB is to help you!

• Identify the components of a limit statement

• Select limits which DNE on the basis of graphs and tables of values.

• Identify vertical and horizontal asymptotes from limit statements. Use limit statements to describe vertical and horizontal asymptotes.

• Distinguish between the value and the limit of a function at a point.

• Relate two-sided limits to one-sided limits.

• Recognize and sketch graphs satisfying given limit or one-sided limit statements. Use limit or one-sided limit statements to describe graphs.

• Recognize or build a table of values that is consistent with a given limit or one-sided limit statement. Formulate/select limit or one-sided limit statements describing given tables of values.

• Correctly use terms such as "sufficiently large" or "arbitrarily close".

• Use limits involving quotients to compare the relative sizes of values of functions near an objective value of the domain.

• Identify and sketch graphs of functions whose limits fail to exist at some point due to oscillation.

• Use algebra to simplify simple rational functions and compute their limits.
