SUMMARY: Briefly, this book covered an array of topics;
everything from
race, ethnicity, and the sociological perspective, prejudice,
discrimination, being a minority, Black concsiousness, to the issue
of one
America or many. The various esssays provided in this book were
of
studies/research that had been done so to look at the racial and ethnic
relations in the United States. I happened to be looking in my
parents
library at home one weekend, and among other books I happened to come
across this one that struck my interest immediately. I chose
this book
mainly because, in our class, we had been discussing prejudice,
discrimination, ethnicity, and lots of other things that this book
touched
upon; therefore, as I began skimming through it so to see if
I would want
to read it, I came across a part in the book that wrote about prejudice
in
the institution setting, which made me reflect upon what we had discussed
specifically in class. So, here I was, now, reading the book!!
Overall, the book's purpose
and points touched upon the nature of
prejudice, the pattern of discrimination, and the past experience of
the
multifarious American people, and how all of these issues play a part
in
the racial and ethnic relations in the US.
QUESTIONS for the AUTHOR:
1) Because this book is deeply imbedded with so much information
on
various topics, how did you know what informative facts to leave in
and
out of your made points on specific issues?
2) In order to make this 2nd Edition, you had to undergo extensive
research in which you made notes so to acknowledge all the works that
you
cited or referred. How did you narrow down what works you would
use,
being that so many essays and works provided information on the same
topics or issues.
3) Also, how did you organize or keep track of the information
that you
were going to use from the chosen references? I ask this question
for the
reason that you referenced, sometimes, over 60 books, articles, and
or
essays after every chapter which discussed a specific issue.
4) You noted on the back of this book that each and every volume
is the
result of an intensive study, I would like to know how long are your
studies before you decide to actually write a book?
5) In order to provide people with the given information in your
books or
book, are your studies based on your on personal research or is it
based
on research provided from a collaboration of others' works, essays,
etc?
I ask this because you refer a lot to others' articles, books, and
essays
that you used in your information.
