McIntosh, P. (1988). White privilege and male privilege: A personal

"White Privilege and Male Privilege" is an article on unearned advantages
in our society.  McIntosh shows the reader how  males have a privilege
over females paralleling the privilege Whites have over other cultures.
It shows the reader that our prejudices are rooted deep into our culture,
in a place so deep one does not know of their existence.  It even goes to
the extent of citing 46 privileges White people have over Black people,
most of which White people would never realize they had.
I found this article to be absolutely amazing.  It was probably
the most eye-opening essay I have ever read.  It really made me think
about who I am and the privileges I have been given.  I never realized
what a truly advantaged life I had.  I recommend this essay to everyone,
because there is not a person in this world who could not benefit from it.

The questions I have are:
1) How do we change the belief that all cultures should be like the white
culture?
2) How do we help others to become aware of their unearned advantages?
3) How do we educate others to understand that racism is not only the acts
of individual meanness of a group, but instead an invisible dominance of a
group?
4) What is the best way to eliminate an unearned advantage/disadvantage
within the classroom?
5) How can a teacher make students less susceptible to unearned
advantages/disadvantages?
