The letters at the end of a file name that identifies the type of a file on a computer. File extensions are usually, but not always, 3 letters. Most filenames for pages used on the Internet end in '.htm', or sometimes '.html'. Most graphic images used on the Internet have either the file extension '.jpg' or '.gif'.
A unit of distance on a computer screen. This is variable, depending on a computers monitor and settings.. Most computer screens are either 800, 1024, or 1280 pixels wide. 'Pixel' is 'picture element' condensed. Web sites are usually designed so that they fit onto an 800 pixel screen.
HyperText Markup Language. The basic computer language used for Internet documents. Originally, you'd write your plain text, then you'd 'mark it up' to get the formatting right.

A computer usually located somewhere else (like Omaha or Atlanta or who knows) whose life is dedicated to holding web pages like the ones that you are making, and is set up to share those web pages to anyone on the Internet.
Uniform Resource Locator. The address of a website. When URL is said as a word, it's sound like 'rural' without the first 'r'.
On your local computer, a main folder plus subfolders and files that, when published to a web server, contains the complete set of folders and files needed to make a web site.
Web page A document, usually an HTML page, that contains one topic of information in a section of a web site.
Web site A collection of web pages which are connected via a navigation system and which reside on a server accessible to the Internet or an Intranet.
Local site Contains files and folders on your computer's hard drive.
Remote site Resides on a web server and is available to the Internet.
Internet Web pages and sites available to anyone with an internet connection.
Intranet A private web site accessible only to user with password permission.
Extranet An extension of an Intranet which allows users outside the private group to access pages with password permission.
Online course An instructional or training course delivered via web pages and sites accessible via the Internet or an Intranet like Blackboard Course Management System.
