Lesson 7 -  It's Project Time!

From this time on you will be concentrating on your project.  You will need to make weekly reports and continue to make postings in the Discussion Board.

Web sites can always be made bigger and better.  You are expected to continue improving your web site until the end of the term.  Your web site cannot be declared 'done' early.  Consult your instructor if you feel you are at an impasse for any reason.

Suggestions for Organization

You've made outlines before for other classes.  Have you noticed that a web site's folder structure looks a lot like an outline?  Plan the structure of your web site early, and build a folder structure to hold it.  Make blank or minimal web pages to occupy spaces in the folder if it help you to organize.

Start your style sheet early, because it will affect every page you make.  You can add or modify the style later as you learn more, but it will be less work if the structure is set up in advance for the style sheet.  If you don't set up your style sheet early, you may be tempted to format text as you go.  That is poor strategy because it will cause your pages to need reformatting later.

Don't spend too much time on any single aspect of your web site.  Your skills will improve as you go, and that which might seem difficult early will be easier later.

Quality Counts

spel it riteYour web site needs to have the level of dignity that your client expects.  Check spelling and grammar as you go.  Have a friend or parent proofread your site periodically, or trade proofreading duties with a classmate.  Writers are often myopic (poor vision) about their own mistakes.  Be grateful if someone points out an error.  You don't want errors to be on your site after you make it accessible to the public.

The Weekly Report

Post a report each week on the last regular school day of the week.  For example, for the week of the Thanksgiving holiday, post on Wednesday.  If you are unable to post on the last day, post as near to that date as you can, and provide a brief explanation in the posting.

Here is a sample report.  Post a similar report weekly in the Discussion Board for Lesson 7.

Here is a blank report form.  While viewing it in your browser, right click, select 'View Source', copy the source, and paste it into your HTML editor.

If your can't do the blank report form above for some reason, here is a blank report form with the HTML code on the same page.  Copy the HTML portion visible and paste it into your HTML editor.
