Lesson 6, Task 1

Other Software

This task needs to have flexibility because student access to the software necessary will vary, as well the features desired for use on your web sites.  If you are not able to comply with any part of this task due to lack of software, contact the instructor before you post your assignment.

Using Excel (or other spreadsheet)

See this example of making a spreadsheet and inserting the results into FrontPage.

Using a PDF File

If you have access to Adobe Acrobat or other software that makes PDF format files, you can make a simple file for this assignment.  Otherwise, just go to this file, save it to your web, and use it in the practice page for this assignment.

Using a PowerPoint File

If you have access to Microsoft PowerPoint, make a simple one page file and copy the file to your web.  Or, if you've made or saved a PowerPoint file in the past you'd like to use instead, copy the file into your web.  If you don't have PowerPoint available to you, go to EMclass.zip or EMclass.exe and save it to your web.  Open the zip or exe files to get the file EMclass.ppt (a PowerPoint file), and use it as the new practice page for this assignment.

Discussion Board Task 6-1

You will make a new web page named practice6-1.htm.  The page will have on it:

  1. A table that was made using Excel or another spreadsheet.
  2. A link to a PDF file located on your web.
  3. A link to a PPT file located on your web.

Use Excel or another spreadsheet to create a table that is at least 3 columns wide by 10 rows high. It may be wider or longer.  Fill the table with data, either real or false, but do not use the data from the example.  Examples of the columns in the table you can create:

  • Expenses list:  Date, Item, Cost
  • Materials list:  Description, Size, Color
  • Research observations:  Sequence number (1,2,3,etc), date, height (cm), width (cm)
  • Golf results:  Date, Front 9, Back 9, Total Score, Course Par, Above/Below Par

Save your spreadsheet, then process it like in the example and put it on practice6-1.htm.

Make a link on practice6-1.htm to the PDF file in your web.

Make a link on practice6-1.htm to the PPT file in your web.

When you are done with practice6-1.htm, publish it, the PDF, and the PPT file to your website.

Make a Discussion Board posting (L6-1) with a link to practice6-1.htm and include your commentary about this assignment.  Discuss your ideas of how using a spreadsheet file, a PDF file, or a PPT file could benefit your planned website.
