Reserve Reading Article Advocacy Paper

The field of environmental and natural resource policy conflict is broad and diverse.  Rather than the course instructor alone selecting articles environmental conflict resolution students to read, you will choose an article and propose it for inclusion in the COMM 412/512-PAX 415/515 reserve reading packet.  Hopefully, this task will result in a reserve reading packet that reflects the diversity of interests among course participants.

Step the First
You need to find an article on some aspect of environmental or natural resource policy conflict that you think students in our environmental conflict resolution course should read.  The article should be in the public domain; that is, something published in print or on the web.  Please attach an unmarked and fully cited copy of the article with your advocacy paper.

The article should pertain directly to some aspect of environmental or natural resource conflict.  It should be substantive, that is, more than a brief news article.  You may want to consult journals (e.g., Society and Natural Resources, Environment and Behavior, Journal of Rural Sociology, Journal of Forestry, Journal of Applied Communication Research) or periodicals (e.g., High Country News, Atlantic Monthly, American Forests, Audobon).

Step the Second
You will write a two to three page paper (double-spaced) advocating that your article be included in the COMM 412/512-PAX 415/515 reserve reading packet. You need to provide specific reasons why students should read the article you have selected.  You may want to consider the article's strengths, both in terms of substance and style.  You might want to address what the reader should learn from the article, and why such learning is important.  Your rationale should include reasons why environmental conflict resolution students should read the particular article you have selected.
