Students bring different backgrounds in statistics to BOT 440/540. One of the purposes of the chapter on Statistical Background is to build a common understanding of the statistical concepts and applications needed in the course. Some statistical concepts and applications cause more difficulties than others. This "Primers in statistics" section provides more detail on some sticky topics. This is a newly developed part of the course, and the only topics covered so far are determing t and confidence intervals.
