Assignments
Exercises are a way to apply the concepts and procedures learned in the course without the logistical hardships of working in the field. Each of the exercises is a mini-research study, in the sense that you will generate new data. The instructions for each exercise explain the procedures and what goes into your report. Your grade on each exercise will be based on the degree to which your report does the following:
Hint: Be sure to show the measurement units of all values, even in intermediate calculations. A word of caution: Some students try to tackle the exercises (and even the projects) without studying the chapters with care and thought. This approach inevitably leads to disaster.
