Assignments
Some assignments dealing with calculations suggest that you show your work. Although this is not a requirement, and you will get full credit if the answer is correct, it is easier to assign partial credit if the intermediate steps are there. The spreadsheets you will be including with your reports provide an excellent way to show your work. I will be able to see your data and how you approached the calculations. Best of all, the built-in arithmetic and functions of the spreadsheet are a completely satisfactory way to "show your work." See Using spreadsheets for more information about using spreadsheets in BOT 440/540. Just to be clear, you do not have to show every intermediate calculation. For example, when asked for the standard deviation, you just have to show the data and your answer. You do not have to show individual squared deviations, etc., because knowledge of those calculations is assumed by listing a statistics course as a prerequisite. The proper application of a spreadsheet function like a STDEV or STDS is plenty good enough. Concentrate on showing the calculations that are special to BOT 440/540. |
