The assignments include self-administered quizzes, indoor exercises, and field projects.

To take the quizzes, select the Assignment button in Blackboard and select the quiz.

You can reach the instructions for the exercises and projects either through the Assignment button in Blackboard or from the Assignments button above.

The best (but not actually required) way to move through the course is to go through the chapters in order, doing the assignments for each chapter as you go.

  • The Flow of Assignments diagram shows the chapters and assignments. The dates on the diagram are guidelines for helping you complete the course by the end of the term. Students who fall behind this recommended schedule often have a difficult time catching up.
  • Setting a schedule is complicated because many assignments build on previous assignments. Before finishing such assignments you should get my comments back from the earlier reports to make sure you are on the right track. These dependencies show up in the diagram marked as "Wait for comments."  It usually takes three to five days to get comments back from me.
  • A steady pace through the term is very important for letting this process work — so keep on or ahead of the recommended schedule.
  • The absolute deadline for submitting assignments is the last day of the term, September 5.
