Configure Exchange on Entourage 2008
PLEASE NOTE:
Starting January of 2012, OSU will be upgrading to Exchange? Server 2010. If you want to continue using Entourage 2008 to check mail, it will need to be upgraded to Entourage 2008 Web Services Edition. The splash screen should look like this, and the about screen should look like this.
Other alternatives include upgrading to Outlook 2011 (for mac), or the latest version of Mac Mail (version 5).
There are two options available when setting up Entourage 2008 to check your email:
- Set Up an Exchange Connection - Reccomended
- Set Up an IMAP Connection - Only if Exchange doesn't work
Set up an Exchange connection to the OSU E-Mail server
This is the preferred method if you are on-campus or using a VPN connection from off-campus. It provides the most features and easiest access to Exchange. To set this up in Entourage follow these instructions.
- The first time you run Entourage, the Entourage Setup Assistant will open. Close the Assistant.
- Go to Tools, Accounts, Exchange, and click on New.
- Click on Configure Account Manually.
- Enter a name for the account, such as "Exchange".
- Then enter your name: John Doe
- Enter your email address: john.doe@oregonstate.edu
- Put your username in the Account ID field, and enter the domain, and password. For example, if you are a CN customer:
- Username: doej
- Domain: CN
- Exchange Server: exmail.oregonstate.edu
- Click on the Advanced tab, and put a checkmark next to DAV Service requires secure connection (SSL).
- Enter the name of the global catalog server in your domain (e.g. gc.nws.oregonstate.edu or gc.tss.oregonstate.edu, etc.).
- If you do not know this, contact your DCA.
- In the settings for the directory server and ensure the boxes are checked.
- "This server requires me to log on"
- "Override Default LDAP Port: 3268"
- "This server requires me to log on"
- Leave the SSL setting unchecked.
- Leave the Search Base, blank.
- Leave all other options set to default and click OK.
- Entourage will tell you that it is synchronizing in the background. Close the Accounts window.
Set up an IMAP connection to the OSU E-Mail server
If you are off campus and still want to use your email client instead of the webmail feature you can set up an IMAP connection to the server. This won't provide all of the features you are used to from the standard Exchange connection but you will be able to check your messages and send mail. To set up this connection follow these instructions.
- Open Entourage.
- Open the Tools menu and choose Accounts.
- Click on New.
- When the Account Setup Assistant window appears, click the Configure Account Manually button.
