"Religion: Opiate of the Masses?"

The OSU Socratic Club will feature a debate on the topic, "Religion: Opiate of the Masses?" on Monday, January 10, at 7 p.m. in Gillfillan Auditorium. Speakers are Paul Metzger, Associate Professor of Christian Theology and Theology of Culture at Multnomah Biblical Seminary, and Susan Shaw, Director of Women Studies at OSU. The presentations will focus on the question of how belief or lack of belief in God influences the way we live and think. Following presentations of alternative views by the speakers, an open discussion will follow with questions from the audience. The meeting is free and open to the public. The Socratic Club is now in its third year. Its purpose is to offer public lectures with discussions between Christian and non-Christian speakers on issues of contemporary debate.
