"Does God Exist?"
Monday, October 17, 2005 at 7 p.m.
Withycombe Auditorium on the OSU campus. Speakers are Michael Gurney of Multnomah Biblical Seminary and Dr. Phillip Hayes of Corvallis.
The debate will explore the age-old question of whether a personal God exists, with the two speakers presenting widely-divergent points of view. The discussion will focus on the evidence for the existence or non-existence of God and what kind of a supreme being is plausible. Michael Gurney will present a Christian point of view, arguing for the existence of a God who reveals himself in history and personal experience. Phillip Hays will present an agnostic position, arguing for a non-religious explanation of the meaning and purpose of life and a natural basis for morality. Both speakers will be given equal time for their presentations and members of the audience will have the opportunity to address questions to them. The meeting is free and open to the public.
