2006 Queer Pride Celebration
"The Queer Agenda: Justice For All"


The 2006 Queer Pride Celebration is designed to open dialogue and create educational opportunities around issues relating to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex and allied community. The 2006 Queer Pride Celebration Planning Committee has been meeting since February to create the fun and diverse range of programs listed below.

      Magdalen Hsu Li - MU Main Lounge
    Monday, May 08, 2006 -- 6:30-8:00pm
    an internationally acclaimed bisexual Asian-American singer-songwriter, will be performing with Dale Fanning from Living Daylights. Her musical performances attempt to bring communities together and raise awareness on diversity & multicultural topics, and she has been compared to Tori Amos and Ani DiFranco. Sponsored by SOL: The LGBT People of Color Support Network.

      Justice for All: A Community Dialog Honoring All Voices - MU Journey Room

    PEACE OSU will host an NCBI facilitated conversation to allow individuals from the OSU campus to share their voice and perspectives around Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender issues.

      LGBT Advocacy Team Training - ED 301
    Saturday, May 13, 2006 -- 10:00-1:00pm
    The LGBT Advocacy Team presents Safe Space Training for OSU students, staff and faculty who are interested in becoming allies to the LGBT community. The training will focus on basic LGBT concepts & theories; strategies on how to create a safe and inclusive learning environment; and skills on how to confront homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, and heterosexism.     Who can be an ally and what does it mean to be an ally? Panel members will share their perspectives and experiences with being an ally to the LGBT community.

    A reception for LGBT staff, faculty and alumni, with an opportunity to discuss the creation of an LGBT Staff/Faculty group and possible future activities.

    Experience family, the life stories of parents, children and siblings as they have had their lives influenced by the Queer community.

      Rainbow Continuum Pride Week Meeting - Women's Center

    Join us for the weekly meeting of the Rainbow Continuum, OSU's student social organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex students and their allies. Free pizza will be provided.

      Exploring Gender - MU 208
    Tuesday, May 16, 2006 -- 10:00-12:00pm
    This program will utilize a variety of creative outlets - including poetry, film, and performance art - to introduce participants to a variety of gender identities and expressions. A panel of individuals will discuss these topics based on their own experiences living within or outside of the gender binary. Audience participation in the discussion is welcomed!

      Lunchbox Discussion: What's in an Identity? - MU 208
    Tuesday, May 16, 2006 -- 12:00-1:00pm
    A one-hour discussion about identity - how and why we identify ourselves and what it means to choose a label. Bring your own lunch and join us for some enlightening conversation!

      Film: I Exist? - MU Journey Room
    Tuesday, May 16, 2006 -- 1:00-3:00pm
    A short presentation and enlightening film will be used to highlight the intersections of ethnicity, religion and sexuality. "I Exist" is a documentary with touching and groundbreaking interviews that shed light on the experiences of LGBT Middle Eastern Americans who once were voiceless by the fear of shame and ostracism.

      Fun in the Sun for Kids - MU Quad
    Tuesday, May 16, 2006 -- 3:00-5:00pm
    A family oriented event that will honor all families. This event will include many activities such as crafts, games, piņatas, potato sack races, three legged races, a slip 'n slide (bathing suit required), and a scavenger hunt. Bring the entire family for an afternoon of fun and games. Snacks provided.

      Homosexuality & the Bible - MU 208
    Tuesday, May 16, 2006 -- 3:00-5:00pm
    Guest presenters will present information around several topics related to homosexuality and the Bible, including particular texts and different interpretive lenses. A discussion and question session will follow the presentation.

      LGBT Adolescence- Main Lounge
    Tuesday, May 16, 2006 -- 6:00-8:00pm
    Explores the experiences of LGBTQQIA adolescent individuals, more specifically the coming out process, safety, support and to ask questions about the world in which they will be growing into.

    Panels of individuals answering questions on topics related to safety during sex, sex toys, and other aspects of the ways in which queer people have sex.

      Film: Brokeback Mountain - MU Main Lounge
    Wednesday, May 17, 2006 -- 6:00-8:00pm
    This award-winning film about the trials and tribulations of forbidden love, and the fallout of a decades-long secret romance between characters Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist, is set against the beautiful and desolate background of Wyoming in the 1960's and 70's. It's not too late to see it on a big screen!

      Slumber Party! - Pride Center
    Wednesday, May 17, 2006 -- 8:00pm-Overnight
    Celebrate with the LGBTQQIA community in a relaxed social atmosphere with food, karaoke, movies and a campfire. There will also be a slumber party in the Pride Center, and if you're interested make sure you have a blanket or a sleeping bag available. Bring some friends along or join us for fun, festivities throughout the night - this event is free and open to everyone!

    Bring your swim trunks for some wrasslin' in a pool of slime or just come watch some good ol' fun in the quad as we get down and dirty with safer sex paraphernalia! Later, participate in the drag races (no cars involved) for a chance to win prizes including tickets to the Drag Show!

    Ron Buford is the openly gay, African American director of United Church of Christ's "God is Still Speaking" campaign. He will talk about the connections between the Civil Rights Movement and the LGBT rights movement as well as the need for progressives to work more closely with progressive religious voices.

    Join us for this free and fabulous end-of-Pride-Week drag show as Poison Waters (Portland's famous drag queen) emcees this glamorous, raucous drag show. Doors open at 7:15, all ticket holders must be in by 7:50pm or forfeit ticket. Limited availability general admission opens at 7:50pm. Free tickets available in Student Involvement (149 MU East) and the Pride Week Info Tent on 5/15.

      The Experience: Post Drag Show - Club Escape

    What to do when the drag show ends? Join us in Club Escape for the post-drag show experience, featuring MORE performances by student drag performers, MORE dancing to great music, and MORE fabulous times in a fun club atmosphere.
