Pre-Veterinary Meeting Tuesday, May 19th at 7:00pm in Magruder 102

Steve Brown, author of See Spot Live Longer, will be giving a presentation on fats in dog diets. The meeting is in Magruder 102. Here is some more info on his presentation:

The Better Fats, Better Dogs Seminar

“‘You are what you eat’ applies to fat more than any other macronutrient.”[i]

The scientific evidence is overwhelming; dogs who eat the proper amounts of balanced fats, with a complete range of defended-from-oxidation fatty acids are healthier and happier. They learn faster, remember more, see and hear better, have fewer skin, coat and other inflammatory problems, are more coordinated, less likely to be obese, and will probably live longer than dogs who do not eat a balanced fat diet.

Yet most dogs do not eat a balanced fat diet because the knowledge is new and some important fats are too fragile to be included in long shelf-life foods. Even dogs fed fresh meat diets rarely get the proper balance of fats, because modern feedlot-fed animals provide an unhealthy balance of fats.

The Better Fats Better Dogs seminar presents new information about how to properly balance fats for dogs, whether you recommend or feed dry, frozen or homemade foods. This seminar is technical and is intended for veterinarians, pet food formulators, and those who want a greater depth of understanding of fats for dogs.

This seminar is based upon Mr. Brown’s new book (working title Ancestral Diet) to be published by Dogwise Publishing. The book has received excellent early reviews: Dr. Randy Kidd said that he “absolutely loved the book” and Mary Straus, who writes about nutrition for the Whole Dog Journal, said, “it was absolutely fascinating, I couldn’t stop reading.”

Pre-Veterinary Fundraising Success!!!

Thanks to all of you who have helped out withfundraising and grant writing. We raised about $350 from the NW Pet and Companion Fair and Pet Day. Pass the Pig earned us about $450. Best of all, we received a grant from the Women’s Giving Circle totaling $3830! This money will allow us to have more field trips and will make symposium more affordable so more members can participate.
