Constitution of Pre-Pharmacy
Society

Article I. Name
The name of this organization shall be
the Pre-Pharmacy Society
Article II. Purpose
The purposes of this association are:
1. To coordinate and promote
communications between pre-pharmacy
students.
2. To stimulate interest in matters
pertaining to pharmacy through guest
speakers, demonstrations, and tours.
3. To prepare its members for admission
to the College of Pharmacy.
Article III. Members
Section 1. Active
Members shall be enrolled students at
Oregon State University who have paid
the membership fee adopted by the
President and shall remain in effect for
the remainder of the current academic
year with the year starting in
September.
Section 2. Annual dues,
which will be adopted by the President,
shall be paid by the fourth formal
meeting of each year, after which a
member will be dropped for nonpayment of
dues.
Section 3. All voting
members and officers of Pre-Pharmacy
Society must be currently enrolled for
at least 6 credits at Oregon State
University and pay student fees.
Section 4. Membership
shall not be denied to any student on
the basis of race, color, national
origin, religion, sex, sexual
orientation, age, marital status,
disability, disabled veteran or Vietnam
era veteran status.
Article IV. Officers
Section 1. The
officers of the association shall be
President, Vice-President, Secretary,
and Treasurer. These officers shall
perform the duties prescribed by the
constitution and bylaws and by the
parliamentary authority adopted by the
association.
Section 2. Officers
shall be nominated at the first meeting
of Spring Term each academic year.
Elections shall be by secret ballot and
the candidates receiving the most votes
shall be named to their respective
offices.
Section 3. Officers
shall be elected to serve for one year.
The elected successors’ terms of office
shall begin at the close of the last
spring meeting at which they are elected
in that year.
Section 4. Officers
shall have earned at least 6 credit
hours in their most recently completed
term. This requirement does not apply to
first-term freshman or first-term
transfer students.
Section 5. Officers
shall be registered for at least 6 hours
currently.
Section 6. Officers
shall not be on disciplinary probation.
Section 7. Officers
shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of
2.50 and not have been on academic
probation for the most recently
completed term prior to the term of
election.
Section 8. A graduate
student must pay student fees and meet
the same requirements as an
undergraduate student with the exception
that full time status shall be a minimum
of 6 hours with a minimum cumulative GPA
of 3.00.
Section 9. The
description of each officer is as
follows:
President:
- Introduce guest speakers at meetings.
- Contact correct personnel to confirm
dates are correct for trips/major events
and meetings.
- Keep the Advisor up-to-date on club
activities.
- Contact potential guest speakers.
- In charge of organizing committees if
applicable.
- Responsible for maintaining the web
page.
- Contact members on the Pre-Pharmacy
listserv.
Vice-President:
- Be in charge when the President is not
available.
- Oversee advertisement of meetings.
- Schedules room time for meetings with
whoever is responsible.
- In charge of keeping the Pre-Pharmacy
News Board up-to-date on the Pharmacy
Landing.
- Along with President, maintain and
update the Pre-Pharmacy society website
Secretary:
- Take minutes at meeting to be posted
on the Pre-Pharmacy News Board and to be
placed on the web page.
- Keeps file on members - active members.
- Liaison for potential club sponsors.
- Email minutes to Executive Committee.
Treasurer:
- Collect club dues.
- Responsible for giving receipts out.
- Maintains the club’s money.
- Buys food/drinks for meetings and
activities.
- Pick up mail in the Pre-Pharmacy
mailbox located in Student Involvement.
- Coordinate community service
activities.
Article V. Meetings
Section 1. Regular meetings of
the society shall be held at a frequency
determined by the President.
Section 2. Meetings
will be held at a designated place
determined by the President. Notice of
meetings shall be given in writing and
posted at designated places and/or by
electronic email at least 5 days prior
to the meeting and shall specify the
time and place and, when practicable,
the business to be transacted at the
meeting.
Section 3 . The last
regular meeting of the spring term shall
be known as the annual meeting and shall
be for the purpose of receiving reports
of officers and committees and for any
other business that may arise.
Section 4. Special
meetings of the members may be called by
the President at any time on the
President’s own initiative. Special
meetings may also be called as is
necessary to accommodate a guest speaker
or demonstration. Notice of such
meetings shall be given as described in
ARTICLE V, Section 2 of these By-Laws
and at such special meeting there shall
be considered only such business as is
specified in the notice of the meeting.
Section 5 . At all
meetings of the society, either regular
or special, the numbers in good standing
that shall constitute a quorum, shall be
25%.
Section 6. Meetings of
the officers shall be called by the
President on the President’s own
initiate whenever, in the President’s
judgment, it may be deemed necessary, or
by the any of the other officers. Three
days written electronically and/or oral
notice shall be given to all officers
and shall be deemed sufficient notice of
such meetings.
Article VI. Relationship
Pre-Pharmacy Society shall have no
relationship or be controlled by any
other local, state, or national
organization.
Article VII. Activities
The association shall hold regular
business meeting with invited speakers
on topics of interest and any other
activities the President deems fit.
Article VIII.
Section 1. The executive
Committee shall include the officers of
the association. They shall supervise
affairs of the association between its
meetings and make recommendations to the
association. The Executive Committee
shall be subject to the orders of the
association and none of its actions
shall conflict with actions taken by the
association.
Section 2. The
President may appoint such committees as
it deems necessary and may select a
chairperson for that committee. There
shall be no standing of permanent
committees until the need for such shall
arise. The timeline for such committees
shall coincide with officer tenure being
September 1 to August 31. Each member
owes to the society the duty of active
participation of its affairs to the best
of their ability.
Article IX. Advisor
A faculty member at the College of
Pharmacy at Oregon State University will
be each year as the Advisor of the
Pre-Pharmacy Society.
Article X. Parliamentary Authority
The rules contained in the current
edition of Roberts Rules of Order Newly
Revised shall govern the association in
all cases to which they are applicable
and in which they are not inconsistent
with the constitution, bylaws, and
special rules of order the association
may adopt.
Article XI. Amendments
This constitution may be amended at any
regular meeting of the association by
two-thirds vote, provided that the
amendment has been submitted in writing
at the previous regular meeting. The
Student Activities Committee must
approve all amendments.
