CONSTITUTION

OSU VEGETARIAN RESOURCE NETWORK

Adopted on May 15, 1996

Article I

Name

The name of this organization is: OSU Vegetarian Resource Network

Article II

Purpose

The OSU Vegetarian Resource Network brings together OSU students, faculty and staff dedicated to promoting vegetarianism by providing educational resources and support for those who choose a vegetarian lifestyle. Our purpose is to increase awareness of the positive impact that vegetarianism has on the environment and health, and its importance in establishing the rights of animals and the development of an ethical, non-violent society.

Article III

Members

Section 1. Active members shall be OSU students, faculty or staff who attend at least 75% of meetings OR provide a regular service to the organization. Only active members are eligible to hold office or vote.

Section 2. Associate members are OSU students, faculty or staff who are interested in vegetarianism and animal rights. Associate members are not eligible to hold office or vote but may attend organizational meetings and assist with activities.

Section 3. All officers of the OSU Vegetarian Resource Network must be "regularly admitted" students at Oregon State University.

Section 4. Membership shall not be denied to any student, faculty or staff member on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, disabled veteran or Vietnam-era veteran status.

Article IV

Officers

Section 1. The officers of the organization shall be known as coordinators and will include: a Network Coordinator; a Public Relations Coordinator; and a Publishing Coordinator.

Section 2. Officers will be volunteers who are active members of the organization.

Section 3. There will be no term limit set, and the same officer may serve in the position for consecutive years as long as active members agree to this by consensus or majority vote.

Section 4. In the event that two or more active members volunteer for the same office, all voting members will decide by consensus who shall assume the office. If a consensus is not reached, officer selection wi ll be based on a majority vote as determined by a secret ballot.

Section 5. Officers shall have earned at least six hours of credit in their most recently completed term. This requirement does not apply to first-term freshmen or first- term transfer students.

Section 6. Officers shall be registered for at least six hours currently.

Section 7. Officers shall not be on disciplinary probation.

Section 8. Officers shall have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00 and not have been on probation for the most recently completed term prior to the term of election.

Section 9. A graduate student who holds office must be a regularly admitted student and meet the same requirements as an undergraduate student with the exception that full-time status shall be a minimum of five credits with a GPA of 3.00.

Article V

Meetings

Section 1. The regular meetings of the organization shall be held on a weekly basis. At each meeting, the time and location of next meeting shall be announced.

Section 2. The first meeting of the Spring term shall be for the purpose of electing officers. New officers will assume their position at the third meeting of the Spring term.

Section 3. Special meetings may be called by coordinators and shall be called upon the written request of three active members. The purpose of the meeting shall be stated in the notice and three days' notice shall be given except in cases of an emergency.

Section 4: All regular meetings shall follow a written agenda presented to the members no later than the beginning of the meeting.

Article VI

Relationship

The O.S.U. Vegetarian Resource Network has no relationship and is not controlled by any other local, state, or national organization.

Article VII

Activities

The OSU Vegetarian Resource Network shall hold regular coordinator meetings and organized events. These events may include: guest speakers, information tabling, fundraising, publication and distribution of vegetarian educational materials, potlucks, video showings and other activities of interest to vegetarians.

Article VIII

Committees

Section 1. The coordinators of the organization shall supervise network affairs between meetings, make recommendations to the organization and perform other duties as specified in the constitution and by-laws.

Section 2. Other coordinating groups, standing or special, shall be determined by individual interest. All members shall have the opportunity to select a coordinating group to work on.

Article IX

Advisor

One or more advisors shall be chosen each year in the same manner as the organization's officers. There will be no term limit set, and the same advisor(s) may serve in the position for consecutive years as long as active members agree to this by consensus. If a consensus is not reached, officer selection will be based on a majority vote as determined by a secret ballot. Responsibilities shall be those assigned by Oregon State University's Student Conduct Regulations.

Article X

Authority

The organization will follow those ground rules that are adopted by a consensus of active members and that are consistent with the constitution and by-laws the organization may adopt. If a consensus is not reached, ground rules will be approved by a two-thirds majority vote as determined by a secret ballot.

Article XI

Amendments

This constitution may be amended at any regular meeting of the organization by two-thirds vote, provided that the amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting. All amendments must be approved by the Student Activities Committee.
