The OSU Folk Club offers $1800 scholarships to Benton County high school graduates and older-than-average women who will attend Oregon State University in the fall. These scholarships are made possible by the OSU Folk Club Thrift Shop.

How to Apply

The application forms are available after February 1 and are available at the Thrift Shop at 144 NW 2nd St, most academic advising and financial aid offices at OSU and the counselors' offices at Benton County high schools.

Who Can Apply

The principle criterion for the high school scholarship is academic merit. An application form is required in a complete packet. The form lists the information that must be submitted including:

  • resume, following the format given;
  • one page, typed essay in which you reflect on your attitudes, values, and perception of yourself as you share something that has been particularly meaningful to you in your life;
  • two references, from a teacher, employer, counselor, or community person; and
  • copy of your most recent high school transcript.

The Older-Than-Average Scholarships are awarded to women who are U.S. citizens, residents in Benton County, and are 26 years of age or older at the application deadline date, and who will attend OSU in the fall pursuing bachelor's, master's, or professional degrees (Ph.D. and D.Ed. candidates are not eligible), and carrying at least eight credits at OSU each term. Principal criteria are financial need and merit. Preference will be given to students who have had a break in their post secondary studies and are returning after an absence. An application form is required in a complete packet. the form lists the information that must be submitted including:

  • resume, following the format given;
  • financial statement
  • one page, typed essay in which you reflect on your attitudes, values, and perception of yourself as you explain your educational goals and why you entered college as an older-than-average student;
  • two references, from a teacher, employer, counselor, or community person;
  • student copy of your OSU/college transcript(s); and
  • an official letter of admission if you are entering OSU Fall term for the first time.
