The history of Lambda Chi Alpha at Oregon State University can be traced to 1914 when a group of students organized the Umatilla Club, a men's living organization. On March 3, 1917, this club received its charter as Alpha Lambda Zeta. Tau Zeta of Washington State University performed the installation.

On October 11, 1939, the largest fraternity merger in history occurred when Theta Kappa Nu joined ranks with Lambda Chi Alpha. The men of Oregon Alpha of Theta Kappa Nu joined the brothers of Alpha Lambda, building an even stronger house. Two other local clubs, Ares and Psi Chi, had been absorbed by Theta Kappa Nu in 1921 and 1930, respectively.

Alpha Lambda's first chapter house was located on campus near what is now Sheppard Hall. The chapter then moved to the present Bell Apartments, and subsequently to a house located at 25th and Monroe which was its home for 40 years. In the fall of 1964, the men of Alpha Lambda moved to the new quarter-million dollar house at 10th and Monroe.

Clayton Strain is Alpha Lambda 001. As of this Spring, Alpha Lambda has initiated 1559 members.

THE CREED

We believe in Lambda Chi Alpha, and it's traditions, principles and ideals. The crescent is our symbol; pure, high, ever growing, and the cross is our guide; denoting service, sacrifice, and even suffering and humiliation before the world, bravely endured if need be, in following that ideal.

May we have faith in Lambda Chi Alpha and passion for its welfare. May we have hope for the future of Lambda Chi Alpha and strength to fight for its teachings. May we have pure hearts that we may approach the ideal of perfect brotherly love.
