About us

Mission

The long-term objective of this project is the establishment of a service grogram at Oregon State University capable of educating the Oregon community about the Mexicano/Chicano/Latino population and culture.  We hope to develop cultural awareness and an understanding of higher education institutions so that in the future the vision of higher education will become synomymous with the vision of success for the Mexicano/Chicano/Latino community through cultural, educational, and admission and orientation, and other events that may empower this community.

What We Do

PRESENTATIONS AND WORKSHOPS: As our mission states, this program promotes higher education and cultural awareness.  Therefore, Kalmekak has presented workshops and participated on student panels that deal with subjects such as a mexicanos/chicanos/latinos in college, admission orientation, cultural awareness, and programs available for mexicanos/chicanos/latinos at higher education institutions.  Kalmekak is not limited to who it presents.  Audiences vary in ages from parents and adults to pre-school students both in Spanish and English
