Notes
From Zach Evenson, GSA President:
Servus again!
For the second installment of the GSA semi-trimonthly newsletter, we've
decided to focus our interest on those special few students who really
make learning the language worthwhile. (No, I'm not referring to myself,
but thanks for thinking of me anyway.) This edition is dedicated
to stories of the actual German students studying here from their end
of the Baden-Württemberg-OUS exchangeprogram. After copius amounts of asking, begging, and eventually harmless threats, we managed to persuade some
of the German exchange students to write down a few brief stories about
their lives so far in Corvallis. Inside, Klaus, Marie, Uli, Heiko, Christina,
and Daniel share with us their take on the American way of life; their
astonishment that Corvallis does not, in fact, have a train station;
the utter absurdity that shops here are actually open on Sunday; and
an in-depth taste analysis of Pabst Blue Ribbon versus high-grade Munich
lager. Also, Ashley McDonnough, an OSU student currently on exchange at the University of Konstanz this year, shares with us a
few stories about her experiences on the other side of the pond.
Thanks
for reading, and until next time,
Auf Wiedersehen!
Zach Evenson, GSA President
Our Mission
The
GSA is here for all students with an interest in German, not just German
students. Our goal for
the next year is two-fold: we wish to keep all GSA members regularly
informed
about the many academic and career opportunities open to them in Germany,
either through OSU or other organizations. Secondly, we plan to organize
events throughout the year, which allow all students (not just GSA
members) an opportunity to get together and share their common interests
in the
German language and culture…but above all, to have fun!
The officers for the GSA consist of: Zach Evenson
(President), Mike Vandehey (Vice-President),
Travis Dow (Treasurer), Kelly Butler (Secretary),
and Billy Blomberg (Web Design). Our faculty
advisor is Dr. Christian P. Stehr. |
