-Undergrad in Maine
-Changed major after taking an Ornithology class
-Alaska field study after Exxon Valdez oil spill
--Studying black legged kidywakes and the effects the spill had on productivity
-Middleton Island - Seabird studies
--Murres and Kidywakes
-Research on Illusion Islands at sea
-Ocean conditions and sea bird response
-Participated on a cruise with Russia and US islands in Bering Straight
--Bird colonies that hadn't been researched in a long time
-NW Hawaiian Island - one of the most remote islands
--Wildlife refuge
--lots of bird species nest on the ground
--Problems with invasive grasses
-Masters Degree at Humbolt - Coevolution of native birds and native fruits
--Experiments on banana slugs and berry dispersal

-Moved back to Willamette Valley in 2005
--Vole problem that year in agricultural fields
--Did studies on what the voles in ag fields are doing.
--Found that they have major impacts on soils
-Barn owls - possible habitat loss limiting the species.
--80 nest boxes put up, but recruitment still not great

--What is happening to the hatchlings?
--Predation or lack of detection by biologists?

Elections
-Brett Anderson was our only AFS Liaison nominee and was elected.

-Stacy Hatfield was our only Outreach Coordinator nominee and was elected.

T-shirt Design
-Winner of the design contest was the octopus tentacle design.-Congratulations Jeff Hayes!

Mount Saint Helens Trip
-Three spaces left.
-October 23rd-25th; leave Friday around 6pm and return early on Sunday.
-Work on elk exclusion fence and camp.

TWS
-Workshop in December for TWS and ASF.
-Great opportunity to meet biologists and make contacts.

BlakeBarbaree
-Talk on his thesis research on Marbled Murrelets in Southeast Alaska.
-Listed as threatened in CA, OR, WA, and BC. Not much research done in Alaska despite large population there.
-Unique species with unique needs.
-Radio telemetry to track birds - mostly aerial surveys to find nest locations.
-Blake designed a stationary logger that recorded telemetry information.
-At sea surveys, counting every bird seen along a transect line.
-Studies held to baseline the research for the species in AL and see if it needs to be put on the endangered species list. Also, linking marine habitats with terrestrial habitats can help with monitoring populations and methods.
