Ethics of Napster--Panel Discussion

Marcel Daguerre
Anthony Graybosch

Napster or not to Napster

A panel discussion on the ethics of using Napster in the context of intellectual property rights as applied to works of art in popular music. Marcel Daguerre (Philosophy, CSU Chico) will maintain that the downloading of a Napster file without the permission of the artist or rights holder is tantamount to theft. Anthony Graybosch (Philosophy, CSU Chico) will argue that works of art are primarily part of a culture's commons and that there is nothing wrong with sharing music without an artist's or rights holder permission via Napster
