Leadership WorkshopsAs a service to student organizations on the OSU campus, the Student Involvement (SI) Student Staff is available to present a variety of leadership and organization development workshops, as described below. Leadership Development Workshops Offered by Student InvolvementBalancing Academics and InvolvementJuggling your involvement with your academics can be a challenge. This workshop will cover tips such as learning styles, time management, study tips, test taking tips, stress management, and personal balance. Being a Juicy, Succulent Student LeaderA juicy, succulent leader is happy, creative, and well-balanced. This interactive workshop explores various ways to introduce a bit more juiciness into our lives and leadership positions. Communication and Conflict resolutionLearn to be a better communicator and listener. Learn the 10 commandments to conflict resolution and how to deal with difficult conversations. Cultural Competencies and LeadershipOne of the most frequently asked questions during diversity training is: “Whenever I interact with a person from a different culture, I’m afraid I’ll say something offensive. How can I keep this from happening?” Learn about various dimensions of diversity, the do’s and don’ts of multicultural communication, and how to increase your capacity to interact within a diverse community. Ethics in Leadership and Decision MakingLearn the principles to make sure your organization is ethical and has ethical leadership. Examine situations where ethical decisions need to be made and learn what questions to ask yourself when making an ethical decision. Event PlanningDo your organization’s goals include hosting events and activities? The SI Event Specialists can partner with you to develop your knowledge base and to create an event plan that will allow your organization to build positive relationship with service providers.

Leadership Styles and Group DynamicsLearn about your leadership style, how to work with people who have different styles than your own, and why it is important to have people with different styles on the same team. You will also learn some tips on how to build a good team and the stages of group development. Marketing Your Leadership Experience During a Job SearchLooking for a summer work or a job after graduation? Students who have been involved during their time in college are able to set themselves apart from the competition as long they know how to effectively communicate the skills and experiences they gained. Learn some tips for incorporating your leadership experience in your resume and interviews. Motivating Group MembersFrustrated with low energy and lack of commitment? We all experience moments when we’re not feeling very productive. Learn about different methods for motivating yourself and others. Officer TransitionInstead of just leaving new officers to flounder and figure it out on their own, out-going officers can be helpful is setting things up for a successful transition. In this workshop you will learn how to pass on information about history of the group, successes and challenges from the previous year, and projects that are still in progress. There will also be suggestions for how to help the new officers start off in the right direction. Recruitment/Retention and MotivationGet tips on how to recruit new members and keep the members you have. Setting goals and expectationsSuccessful groups are able to define what they want to accomplish and the step they need to take to make it happen.
