Put yourself out there.

Bet you didn’t know there is only one species of beaver in
the whole U.S. You’d never know it at Oregon State. Here,

you can be who you are and explore who you want to be. This
community will welcome you, support you and celebrate you.

Wherever you come from, wherever you’re going, we’ll

          always call you a Beav.

          If the dream of college

          seems out-of-reach, we
          step up to give students

          a boost.

For Angel Torres, that boost was CAMP. The
College Assistance Migrant Program helps make
a college education attainable for students from
          migrant and seasonal farmworker backgrounds.
With CAMP’s support, Oregon State became
affordable. And when Angel got here, CAMP
          provided academic resources, mentoring and
activities to help him thrive. Which he has —
through an internship taking plant tissue samples
for local growers, a research project using x-ray
absorptiometry to study livestock bones and a
          study abroad experience examining agricultural
          systems in Puerto Rico.
Angel has served as a mentor for first-year
students in the CAMP program, sharing the
same tools and resources he received. “Without
the program, I wouldn’t be as successful as I am
now,” Angel says. “Programs like CAMP allow for
that inclusivity of students who don’t necessarily
have a college background. It provides that sense
          that education is for all.”

          He’s right. And he’s proof.
