Office of International Research and Development
OIRD promotes and coordinates international research and development activities on the OSU campus and overseas. The office has extensive experience coordinating, developing and implementing a wide range of international development activities involving research, institution building, instruction, extension, and technology transfer. Work is carried out in disciplines such as agriculture, home economics, education, fisheries, forestry, and gender roles and in degree and non–degree training programs offered at Oregon State University, at other universities, and overseas.
OIRD’s responsibilities include:
- Leadership to the University as it develops a long–range comprehensive international research and development program that will enrich curriculum, improve research, and enhance faculty expertise;
- Assistance to University colleges, departments, and faculty, as they select specific technical areas and regions as the focus of their international program development efforts;
- Leadership in the identification, selection, implementation, and management of international development projects and programs that meet developing country needs and reflect the strengths and interests of OSU faculty;
- Leadership and support to University departments in developing degree and non–degree training programs for international participants, and assisting in scheduling and hosting international visitors and scholars.
- Logistical, administrative, and managerial support to overseas projects and to faculty undertaking independent international research activities
- Liaison to U.S. and international institutions, centers, and agencies.
Many OSU faculty currently participate in a variety of international projects and programs administered by the OIRD. Faculty members interested in more information about these international programs, including their own involvement, should contact one of OIRD’s co–directors.
