Space Planning
Space planning guides the allocation of physical space requirements in accordance with OUS Facilities Guidelines and Standards. The guidelines were developed to provide each OUS institution baseline space guidelines for facilities planning. The guidelines are benchmarked annually with OSU's peer institutions to keep current on space allocation trends.
Campus Planning follows a space allocation model that includes three phases:
Phase I: Tactical Space Audit:
- Overall analysis of campus,
- OUS Facilities Standards and Guidelines applied,
- Standards and Guidelines comparable with national space standards,
- Space inventory is baseline data, and
- Four space categories evaluated: (if applicable)
- Office and Related
- Class Lab and Related
- Research Lab and Related; and
- Other
Phase II: Strategic Space Audit:
- Physical space audit (walkthrough of space),
- Adjust data; produce Phase 2 report
- Provide floor plans showing existing conditions and space inefficiencies
Phase III: Space Reallocation and Improvement Plan:
- Kick-off meeting with departments
- Work collaboratively with all parties
- Depending on program needs, ensure specific space needs are included
- Include space projections
- Develop and implement plan for space reallocation
