Ex8: Can I Reserve a Work Study Position for a Specific Student? (EEO Guidelines)

Student Employment Policy & Procedure Manual
Section 100: Introductory Material
Effective: 03/01/1997

New Job or New / First Time Hire in the position:

Job must be advertised as open prior to any hiring

Existing Job with New / First Time Hire in the position:

Job must be advertised as open prior to any hiring

Existing Job with returning student worker to that position

  • Job would be listed as Reserved
  • Provide the student name and ID if known, that the position is reserved for by putting that information at the end of the job description box.  Financial Aid or Career Services will move the name to an area only accessible to administrators so it will not be visible to the general public.

Multiple positions in one Existing Job with some position(s) being  filled by returning student previously in that position

  • Job must be advertised as open.
  • Show the number of positions, with the notice stating that a position(s) is reserved (i.e. 4 positions total, 1 is reserved) in the job description box.
  • Provide the student name and ID if known, that the position is reserved for by putting that information at the end of the job description box.  Financial Aid or Career Services will move the name to an area only accessible to administrators so it will not be visible to the general public.

IMPORTANT:   The only time a position can be reserved is if it’s an existing position and the student is already in that position from a previous Federal Work Study term (Financial Aid must verify that the student is actually a returning employee).  In all other instances, a job must be advertised before hiring can occur.
