Awards To Be Presented
The OSU Alumni Association Distinguished Professor Award is given to the person who demonstrates outstanding professional achievement through teaching and scholarship, service to the university and the community, and professional leadership, nationally and internationally. In 2008, the honor will be presented to to Kate Hunter-Zaworski, a professor in Civil and Construction Engineering in the College of Engineering.
The Elizabeth P. Ritchie Distinguished Professor Award recognizes an individual for outstanding undergraduate teaching; research, particularly related to improvement of instruction; and professional leadership. In 2008, the honoree is Tom Dick, professor and director of Mathematics in the College of Science.
The Richard M. Bressler Senior Faculty Teaching Award is given to the individual with longtime service to Oregon State University and who has demonstrated a major commitment to undergraduate instruction over an extended period of time. The 2008 recipient is Corinne Manogue, a professor of Physics in the College of Science.
The President’s Beaver Champion Award is presented to an individual for outstanding effort beyond that requested; for achievement of excellence and performance of the highest quality. The 2007 recipients were Larry Griggs, Director of the Equal Opportunities Program, and Danny Langsdorf, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the OSU football team. The 2008 recipient will be announced to the campus community during the 10:30 a.m. main stage session on September 18.
The D. Curtis Mumford Faculty Service Award recognizes individuals for exceptional, ongoing, dedicated and unselfish concern for and service to OSU faculty. 2008's honoree is Becky Warner, a professor in the Sociology Department.
The OSU Faculty Teaching Excellence Award honors unusually significant and meritorious achievement in teaching and scholarship which enhances effective instruction. In 2008, the recipient is Megan McClelland, an associate professor in the department of Human Development and Family Science.
The Dar Reese Excellence in Advising Award recognizes outstanding advising of undergraduate students by a member of the OSU faculty, as well as demonstrated success in teaching, research and service. In 2008 the award recognizes Mary Cluskey, an associate professor in the Nutrition and Exercise Sciences, College of Health and Human Sciences.
The purpose of the International Service Award is to recognize exemplary, on-going contributions of OSU faculty and staff to the internationalization of the university by enhancing student, faculty, and staff awareness and participation in international education, research, and related activities. Liz Gray, assistant dean in Human Development and Family Sciences, is the 2008 recipient.
The University Professional Development Award recognizes those who excel in supporting and encouraging OSU employees to participate in professional and/or educational development opportunities. The 2008 recipient is Melody Johnson, faculty research assistant in Environmental & Molecular Toxicology.
The Karel J. H. Murphy Professional Faculty Leadership and Service Award honors a professional faculty member who has provided outstanding leadership and service throughout their career both within their department and in programs and organizations across Oregon State University. Eda Davis-Lowe, director of the SMILE program, is the 2008 honoree.
The OSU Exemplary Employee Award honors one professional faculty member and one classified staff member for their outstanding performance. The 2008 recipients are Liz Etherington, program manager in Biotechnology, Forest Science in the College of Forestry, and Philip Rogers with the Hermiston Agricultural Research and Extension Center.
The OSU Award for Service to Persons with Disabilities recognizes a person who goes above and beyond requirements of their normal job description to accommodate and assist persons with disabilities. 2008's award will be given to Cindy Jenkins, an analyst in Human Resources.
The Herbert F. Frolander Award recognizes graduate students who have excelled in their capacity as teaching assistants. For 2008, this honor will be given to Jennifer Jabson, in the department of Public Health located in the College of Health and Human Sciences.
The purpose of the Outstanding Faculty Research Assistant Award is to recognize scholarly achievement and a level of innovation and effort that far exceeds expectations. Don Heer, a faculty research assistant in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, is the recipient for 2008.
The OSU Academic Advising Award recognizes undergraduate academic advising by professional faculty rank as well as fixed-term academic rank faculty whose primary role is advising and acknowledges advising as a profession making a pivotal contribution to the OSU community. In 2008, the honoree is Chere Pereira, academic adviser in the College of Science.
The Excellence in Graduate Mentoring Award honors graduate faculty members who have extraordinary records of excellence and effectiveness in mentoring graduate students. Anna Harding, a professor in Public Health.
The Student Learning and Success Teamwork Award recognizes departments or interdisciplinary groups at Oregon State University that have demonstrated exceptional teamwork in creating and sustaining an exemplary teaching and learning environment to advance the university’s strategic goal of student success and excellence. The 2008 award goes to the Accounting faculty in the College of Business – Monica Banyi, Amy Bourne, Carol Brown, Larry Brown, Dennis Caplan, Roger C. Graham, Byron Marshall and Jared Moore.
The OSU Extended Education Faculty Achievement Award recognizes significant and meritorious achievement which enhances the effectiveness of extended education. The award is for full-time faculty with five or more years of service to OSU who devote a significant amount of time to extended education, whether on or off campus. This includes tenured, tenure-track, and fixed-term faculty. This award will be presented to Bernadine Strik in Horticulture Extension for 2008.
The OSU Professional Faculty Excellence Award recognizes exceptional service to the university community by faculty who serve in non-academic units or whose service in an academic unit is not defined within the traditional academic categories of teaching, research, or extension. Eligibility is extended to individuals with professional faculty rank as well as those with academic rank who serve in non-teaching roles (e.g., office managers, Facilities Services managers, fund-raisers, academic advisors, technical support faculty, coaches and athletic administrators, counselors, doctors and health care administrators, librarians, etc.). While such faculty may distinguish themselves in the traditional categories for a portion of their work, the bulk of their work must be in one of the many other areas vital to the functioning of the university. Nominations may be submitted by any faculty, staff, or student member of the university community. This award will be presented in 2008 to Tara Bevandich, administrative assistant in Zoology.
