LINN BENTON FOOD SHARE
WHO WE ARE
Linn Benton Food Share is a non-profit food bank that was established in
1981 to help feed hungry people in Linn and Benton counties. In 2004-05, we gathered,
transported, stored and distributed
5 million pounds of food to our 72 non-profit agencies. These agencies include food pantries,
soup kitchens, emergency shelters, day care centers, shelter homes and
gleaning groups.
WHY WE ARE NEEDED
The estimated number of individuals served by Linn-Benton Food Share emergency
food agencies is 42,000. They are our neighbors - seniors on fixed incomes,
parents trying to provide for their families on minimum wage, unemployed
persons, or families hit with high medical bills and no health insurance.
Over 44% of Linn-Benton Food Share emergency food services are provided
to children under the age of 18.
