How to help:

Extension Offices & Experiment Stations
-
Identify someone within your office who will act as your food drive coordinator.
Send that individual's name, office address, office phone number, and e-mail
address to Shelly Houghtaling
-
Contact your local food bank to get information about current needs, and how and when to deliver donations, etc. Download the statewide
listing.
-
Discuss with staff ways in which your office can raise food and funds for
the Drive. See "Food and Fund Raising Ideas" listed on the left. Food donated through
this drive must be non-perishable and commercially canned and packaged
so the food will not spoil and can be handled safely and efficiently. There
is a great need for food high in nutritional value, such as: canned meats,
canned fish, stews and soups, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, infant
food/formula, powdered milk, and peanut butter.
-
Establish a collection site for your office. Using empty copy paper
boxes as your food collection container makes handling and weighing food
that is collected easier, but any clean and convenient container will work.
Please
display posters in visible areas, on collection containers, and spread the word to people in your office.
-
If you're planning a special food or fund-raising event, please let us
know about it. Send an e-mail message describing your event to: the OSU drive coordinator.
We want to be able to share this information with the campus media.
-
Each dollar donated counts as five pounds of food towards our Food Drive
goal. Consequently, cash donations are encouraged. Checks should be made
payable to and deposited at your local food bank. Donations are tax deductible.
Your local food bank
will issue you a receipt for all donations, both food and cash. If one
is not issued, please ask for one. This receipt is for your records and please send send or fax copies of all receipt(s) to Shelly Houghtaling (See contact information located at the bottom left of this page). Receipt copies need to be received by March 5 to be included for the university's competion.
-
Awards will be given for the top three producing, off-campus OSU sites at the end of the Drive.
-
Remember, every effort counts, both big and small, so have fun, and know
that your efforts are helping to feed hungry children and their families
in your community.
