Departments

  1. Identify someone within your department who will act as your food drive coordinator. Send that individual's name, mailing address, location of collection container (if applicable), phone number, email address, and the number of employees in your department to Shelly Houghtaling.

  2.
  3. Discuss with your group food and fund-raising ideas. See "Food and Fund Raising Ideas" above. Challenges between departments are an effective way to stimulate interest and have fun while doing a great community service. Food donated through this drive must be non-perishable and commercially canned and packaged so the food will not spoil and can be handled safely and efficiently. There is a great need for food high in nutritional value, such as: canned meats, canned fish, stews and soups, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, infant food/formula, powdered milk, and peanut butter.

  4.
  5. If you choose to collect food as an activity, establish a food collection site. The use of empty copy paper boxes as your food collection container makes handling and weighing food that is collected easier, but any clean and convenient container will work. Please display posters in visible areas, on collection containers, and distribute extras to promote your activity. Food pick up's will be scheduled throughout the drive. Contact Shelly when you would like a pick up to happen at your location. Final pickup for campus sites will begin Friday, February 29. To make arrangements for food to be picked up other than the scheduled dates, please contact Linn Benton Food Drive at 752-1010. Don't forget to mention that you are participating with the OSU Food Drive and be sure to pick-up a receipt. Please send or fax a copy of your receipt(s) to Shelly Houghtaling (see information below). Receipt copies need to be received by March 5.

  6.
  7. If you're planning a special food or fund-raising event, please send an e-mail message describing your event to the editor of OSU This Week and OSU Today . They can help you "get the word out."

  8.
  9. Each dollar donated counts as five pounds of food towards our Food Drive goal. Consequently, cash donations are encouraged. Checks should be made payable to Linn-Benton Food Share. Cash should be delivered to Shelly Houghtaling at the address below and submit with a Donations Ledger (PDF Form). Please turn money in as you go and convert coins to bills. A receipt will be returned to your department's food drive coordinator (please be sure to indicate the correct address for the return receipt). Donations are tax deductible.

  10. A Direct Deposit Form (PDF) form is available for OSU employees who are interested in making a monthly contribution to Linn-Benton Food Share through their OSU paycheck.  This is an easy and efficient way to encourage larger cash contributions.  Remember, this form was designed for those who wish to make a continuing commitment to Linn-Benton Food Share, and should not be used for those who wish to make a one-time contribution.  Money received through this program goes directly to Linn-Benton Food Share.  Please refer to the form for more detailed instructions.

Download For your convenience in tracking your cash donations, you may want to download the OSU Food Drive Donations Ledger.

  11. To thank you and acknowledge your efforts, awards will be given to the top three producing departments in five different teams. Team assignments will be determined by the number of employees in each department.

  12.
  13. Remember, every effort counts, both big and small, so have fun, and know that your efforts are helping to feed hungry children and their families in our community.
