Recognizing Excellence

Amazing things are taking place on our campus every day. With that in mind, OSU introduced a week of celebration to recognize innovation and creativity. The first such week was held in May, 2008.

Celebrating Innovation

Innovation Breakfast

On Monday, May 11, 2009 OSU will recognize OSU faculty who are recent patent recipients, during a special innovation breakfast. Learn more about this year's innovations to be recognized at the Technology Transfer web site.

Right: Inventors chat before the Innovation Breakfast while community members view the Hall of Patents

2009 sees the first Innovation Lecture to be presented at OSU. We welcome Patrick Murphy, Chief Operating Officer for The University Funds to share an overview of the risks involved at each stage of the commercialization process involving university and externally created IP, disclose real-world examples and experiences with unsuccessful commercialization attempts, and give an overview of how their fund is attempting to restructure the process to increase the value for each stakeholder as well as the success rate.

Celebrating Distinguished Professors

The title of Distinguished Professor is the highest designation and academic honor that OSU bestows on our faculty. These titles have been awarded annually since 1988 to recognize outstanding active OSU faculty members who have achieved national and/or international stature as a result of their contributions to scholarship/creative activity, research, education, and service, and whose work has been notably influential in their fields of specialization. The 2009 Distinguished Professors will present their lectures to the campus community on Wednesday, May 13.

Alan Acock will present "A Typology of Marital Relationships: An Application of Latent Class Analysis" in the morning. Dr. Acock is a professor in Human Development and Family Science in the College of Health and Human Sciences. In the afternoon, Jeff McDonnell will present "Where does water go when it rains?" Dr. McDonnell is an Endowed Chair in the department of Forest Engineering, Resources and Management within the College of Forestry.

Distinguished Professor Lunch

Celebrating Authors

Authors Recognition

OSU faculty members publish, on average, over 30 books each year. View the list of new books. A special reception featuring readings by some of the authors will be held on Wednesday, May 13 in The Valley Library.
