My family and friends already have made arrangements to attend the ceremony on June 16. What is the university doing to assist graduates whose family and friends have been affected by the change in date?
To accommodate the First Lady’s schedule, Oregon State administrators were required to make this date change, and were only able to announce these details on March 28, following approval of Mrs. Obama’s schedule by the White House. Oregon State’s announcement coincided with a White House announcement of two other commencement addresses that the First Lady will make this year on the East Coast.

Meanwhile, Oregon State administrators and staff are working with affected graduates and their families to assist in accommodating this date change.

Among other things, we are working with area hotels and motels to inform them about this date change and request their flexibility in accommodating this date change as it relates to reservations made in advance.  We have also contacted our graduation vendors and they agreed that when contacted by students/and or their families they will reprint graduation announcements with the corrected date.  Jostens may be contacted at 1-800-854-7464.
