Academic Distinction for Undergraduates

To earn a degree with distinction, a student must have at least 90 credits or 60 upper division credits at OSU, with a 3.5 or better GPA. If you meet these qualifications, you will graduate with academic distinction and are entitled to wear an honor cord over your gown. GPAs of 3.50 to 3.69 are Cum Laude and wear orange cords. GPAs of 3.70 to 3.84 are Magna Cum Laude and wear gold cords. GPAs of 3.85 and above are Summa Cum Laude and wear white cords. You can buy your honor cord at the OSU Bookstore.

Honors for the Commencement Ceremony are based solely on Winter Term 2013 GPA’s for spring term graduates. If there is a change in honors based on final spring term grades, a new diploma will be ordered for you during the summer.

Summer 2013 & Fall 2013 prospective graduates do not qualify for honors for this year’s Commencement Ceremony.
