Albrecht Jander describes how magnets are used to store information on a computer and talks about the work of the Applied Magnetics Laboratory is advancing these techniques.

The Applied Magnetics Research Program at OSU was initiated in 2004. The ongoing research encompasses novel magnetic sensors for medical, space and security applications, semiconductor spintronics and magnetic surface acoustic wave devices.

The group is lead by Dr. Albrecht Jander and Dr. Pallavi Dhagat, and enjoys strong collaboration with partners in ONAMI (Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute), and businesses including Umpqua Research Company (Roseburg, OR) and NVE Corporation (Eden Prairie, MN).
