- Waste glass at OSU is recycled through Corvallis Disposal, and managed by OSU Recycling (7-2925)
- The glass recycling program is not an avenue to dispose of chemical wastes
Guidelines
- Clean glass of all chemical residues
- Proper disposal policies should be followed for chemical disposal (safety instruction 8)
- Employees who recycle glass should not be exposed to hazardous or unknown materials
- Separate glass by color when possible
- Remove lids from containers
- Place in covered recycling bins
- No broken glass in the recycling program.
- Place broken glass in puncture-resistant packaging and put in building dumpsters.
- Protect containers left out of doors to prevent rain accumulation inside them; they may be stored upside down
- Pay careful attention to types of glass; don't mix in non-recylalble glass
NON-Recyclable Glass
- Heat resistant glass
- borosilicate glass, also called hard glass or lab glass (trade names: corning, pyrex, kimax, kimble)
- pasteur or volumetric pipets
- glass tubing & rods
- microscope slides and cover glasses
- Plate Glass (window glass)
- Automotive Glass
