The Western Center works with the state ABS leadership team to plan, implement, and evaluate workshops and events focused on specific goals and objectives outlined in the state professional development plan. Professional development activities for state initiatives are developed in targeted instructional areas including reading, technology, and train-the-trainer training for volunteer tutor programs.
OPDS is working with the Oregon Council of Adult Basic Skills Directors Reading Advisory Committee to investigate state and national models in order to develop a Reading Plan for Oregon. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
OPDS is working with the ABS leadership team and the Oregon Technology Advisory Group (OTAG) to offer another Technology Share Workshop in the spring of 2008. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
The Western Center is investigating and documenting models for tutor training from other states and organizations and propose adoption, adaptation, and/or new development of LIFT modules for the Adult Learner and ESL. The Western Center is overseeing development of these modules with accompanying trainer and participant guides. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
The Western Center works with State English Literacy/Civics (EL/Civics) leadership to provide ongoing professional development opportunities in designing, implementing, and evaluating EL/Civics instruction. Regional training meetings will take place in fall 2007 and winter 2008, followed by a statewide event in spring 2008. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
