The ReadOregon program is a collaborative effort of five universities in the Oregon University System — Oregon State University, Eastern Oregon University, Portland State University, Southern Oregon University, and Western Oregon University — in cooperation with OUS Departments of Distance and Continuing Education.

The ReadOregon program consists of two new collaborative distance education programs available to teachers statewide:

Reading Specialist Program — graduate-level, distance-delivered 24-credit reading specialist endorsement program.
Literacy Education Course of Study — graduate-level, distance-delivered, 12-credit literacy education certificate of completion for general classroom teachers.

The ultimate goal of both the new Literacy Education Course of Study and the Reading Endorsement Program is to improve the reading abilities of students in Oregon's schools. Courses and modules are available in the areas of literacy foundations, literacy for diverse learners, literacy strategies & methods, assessment, literature, and leadership of school reading programs.

ReadOregon modules and courses can be used as:

  • a "stepping stone" to a Reading Endorsement
  • the content focus of a Master's degree program
  • a component of your Continuing Professional Development Plan

You should identify Oregon State University as your home institution if you are incorporating one of the ReadOregon programs into a masters program at OSU. (You can still identify OSU as your home institution if you are not working towards a masters degree.) If you choose Oregon State as your home institution, we will provide you with a range of services:

  • academic advising for the ReadOregon programs;
  • supervision of your site-based practicum if you are applying for a reading endorsement;
  • review of your transcripts and help you determine when you have met the requirements for a reading endorsement or classroom literacy program;
  • will recommend you to the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) for the reading endorsement upon completion of a successful program and practicum;
  • will issue a certificate upon successful completion of the classroom literacy program.
