Celebrating Our Graduates

Some of our 2006 Education Double Degree Graduates

On June 18, the OSU Memorial Union Ballroom was filled to the bursting point with friends, families, and faculty celebrating the achievements of our 2006 graduates and licensure candidates. Students from Adult Education and Higher Education Leadership and Teacher and Counselor Education were cheered as each one was announced and presented with a certificate.

Forty-one Education Double Degree graduates, a record number for this innovative new program, wore their special medallions, proudly lining up for a photo opportunity. Following the luncheon and our recognition program, there were plenty of hugs, handshakes, and tears. The Ballroom quickly emptied around 1:00 as students hurried to line up for the official OSU Commencement in Reser Stadium.

Coming Back to Campus for Golden Jubilee '06

Graduates from 1941, 1946, 1951, and 1956 were special guests for this year’s Golden Jubilee hosted on campus June 9-11. A full weekend of activities, including a special reception in the CH2M Hill Alumni Center, kept participants hopping. Dean Sam Stern was on hand at the College of Education’s reception booth greeting alums, sharing Education stories, and showing off conceptual drawings of Education Hall’s forthcoming renovation.

When it was founded over 70 years ago, 4-H Summer Conference was known as “4-H Summer School.” Then, as now, the tradition was intended to “bring youth to the OSU campus to taste the college environment.” This year Summer Conference brought together 350 youth aged 12 to 18 years from 33 Oregon counties for four days of workshops, new friendships, and campus life.

Over 100 different workshops were offered to participants, ranging from Lego Robotics, and Oceanography, to Pod-casting English and Spanish. 4-H faculty and staff announced the 2006 National 4-H Congress delegation at the Recognition Banquet along with recognizing other delegations and honors.
