The new School of Education is pleased to announce a recently endowed scholarship for adult education, the Janet and Ron May Merit Scholarship. The Mays worked with the OSU Foundation to establish their scholarship and as they were creating award criteria, Janet and Ron remembered back to when Janet was in graduate school in the 1980s and how difficult it was for her to find financial support.
At that time, Janet was in the midst of graduate school demands, Ron was working hard in his new career, and both were parenting their two very young children. In spite of having top-notch grades and being fully involved in community service volunteer work, Janet could not qualify for funding assistance because of Ron’s income. The memory of those times has inspired the May’s merit-based scholarship.
The recipient of the Janet and Ron May Merit Scholarship will be a full-time graduate student enrolled in the new School of Education with preference given to students in Adult Education Masters Programs. The student will have a 3.5 GPA and be able to demonstrate community or school leadership particularly, service with 4-H programs. Financial need is not a factor in choosing the scholarship recipient.
Thanks to Janet and Ron, a deserving graduate student in the School of Education will receive financial support, just when he or she most needs it. For detailed information on the Janet and Ron May Merit Scholarship, please call Karen Sullivan-Vance 541-737-4661.
