(the curriculum might be a good example for an international leadership program for fisheries managers...ie. learning to be leaders through experience.)
  • Harvard MBA - Social Enterprises curriculum
    • Effective Leadership of Social Enterprises (ELSE) is a seminar which engages students in exploring the key determinants of superior performance and sustainability in established social enterprises through cases, lectures, and class visitors. All courses have a managerial emphasis that traditional economics courses lack. Typical problems covered within the managerial economics curriculum are pricing within an oligopolistic industry, forecasting product demand over the business cycle, predicting and evaluating the effects that government regulatory intervention will have on an industry, and setting optimal transfer prices among divisions within a corporation.
    • Public/Nonprofit major which includes an introductory nonprofit leadership course
  • Oregon Graduate Institute of Science and Technology

  • Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University College of Forestry and Wildlife Resources
    • *Wood Science & Forest Products - see FOREST PRODUCTS MARKETING AND MANAGEMENT - The role of marketing within the forest products community is becoming increasingly important. The problem faced by many of these companies is that skilled marketing-oriented employees who understand wood products are often not available. M.S., M.F. and Ph.D. degrees. Masters graduates often find employment with forest products companies and trade associations.
    • also has Department of Fisheries and Wildlife Sciences - offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. programs. The comprehensive curriculum covers fisheries and wildlife biology and ecology, habitat analysis, and human dimensions of natural resource science and management.     • **Wageningen School of Management for the Food Industry and Agribusiness - offers an MBA; post management grad. courses, and customized course;
    • **MSc in Agricultural Economics and Management - also see program guide (this program is an ag. economics program and does not appear to be linked to fisheries, however, specializations include:
      • Facility Management - the management of all aspects of the secondary production process. It is interdisciplinary in character. This means that the process is analysed from several disciplines. The specialisation therefore comprises subjects from sociology and natural science, as well as the Economics of Professional Care, and Management Studies and Marketing. The goal is to analyse facility processes in order to improve them. Students will acquire sufficient knowledge to be able to function as intermediaries between graduates of different disciplines. Graduates will be excellently equipped to take up positions as facility managers in large private companies.
      • Marketing and Consumer Behaviour - intended to develop analytical skills to solve agricultural, marketing and management problems; making decisions about marketing food and agricultural products. Consumer orientation is essential in agricultural marketing, and therefore the food consumer will be analysed in depth. Making marketing decisions about product, price, promotion and distribution will be treated in relation to the food consumer and to other elements of the marketing environment, such as competition. The marketing channel of agricultural and food products will also be high-lighted. This specialisation is a good preparation for a career in agribusiness and public administration concerned with agricultural marketing.

Other Notable Public Administration/Policy programs

They work with a real-world client but under the close supervision of faculty advisors with expertise in the topic area. Students frequently experience the satisfaction of seeing their recommendations implemented by the client organization. Visit the PAE Home page.
