Case Training Initiative The
Training Managers for 21st Century Fisheries initiative has identified
the use of the field researched, decision-focused case teaching method
as a potentially powerful and effective technique in the training of
fishery managers and decision-makers. Decision-focused
case teaching method,
used extensively by business
management and other competitive professions,
promises an effective means to enhance knowledge while developing
abilities in applied integrative decision-making skills among fisheries
management professionals, stakeholders involved in management, and students.
However, decision-focused case method is rarely used in fisheries management
curricula due to inexperience of educators and lack of appropriately
designed cases. FAO/SIFAR has also
been developing case study approaches and methodologies recognizing
the potentially key role of these in lesson-learning and in informing
practical approaches to more effective management. Contacts
