By William Shakespeare
Adapted and Directed by Scott Palmer
AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Open Audition Dates:
May 29th and 30th, 6:00 – 9:00pm, Withycombe Hall Mainstage Theatre
Callbacks:
May 31st, 12:00 – 3:00pm, the Memorial Union Quad (please note, you must be available for outdoor callbacks on May 31st from 12:00 – 3:00pm. No exceptions. If you are not available during this time, you will not be considered for a role.)
How:
Email s.palmer120@comcast.net to confirm which night you plan to attend
What to prepare:
Actors are not required to prepare an audition monologue, but are strongly encouraged to do so…if you want to prepare an audition piece, please make it a comic Shakespeare monologue no longer than 2 minutes… You may use material from the play for your audition. You may also wish to showcase your physical comedy skills as that will be an important part of the rehearsal process.
Scripts:
Copies of the adapted script will be available to check out from the OSU Theater Office in Withycombe Hall beginning on May 22nd.
Audition Details:
All OSU students and members of the community are encouraged to audition. If you plan to audition, you should arrive at the Withycombe Main Stage Theater on the OSU campus no later than 5:50pm on one of the two audition nights. You are not required to attend both audition nights. You may be asked to stay for the entire 3 hour audition session.
When you arrive, you will be asked to fill out an audition form. Once all forms are completed, any actor who wishes to perform a prepared audition piece will be asked to do so, followed by a series of “cold reads” where actors (either alone or divided up into pairs or small groups) will be given 15 minutes to review a short scene or speech from the play and will then perform that scene for the group.
All interested actors must be available for callbacks (which will be held outdoors in the Memorial Union Quad) on May 31st from 5:00 – 8:00pm.
A few important things to note:
The roles of Puck and Bottom have been pre-cast. Those roles will be performed by Visiting Artists Maggie Chapin (MFA from the University of Nevada at Los Vegas) and Johanne Scoular (BFA American Academy of Dramatic Arts, New York and MA Candidate, University of Chicago).
As part of their appearance with OSU, Ms. Chapin and Ms. Scoular will be providing the cast of Dream with a series of professional-level vocal, movement audition and performance workshops throughout the rehearsal process.
All Principal Actors must be available for all rehearsals throughout the rehearsal process. If you are not available for these dates, please do not audition as we are not able to accommodate your schedule.
Rehearsals begin on June 9th and are (with a few exceptions) held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings from 5:00pm – 9:00pm and Saturday and Sunday afternoons from Noon – 5:00pm. There may be additional meetings required for “one on one” coaching with the director and workshops with our visiting artists or other rehearsals as needed.
An “audition workshop” will be held on the OSU campus at the Withycombe Lab Theater on Saturday May 24th from 12:00 noon – 2:00pm. Any student or community member who is interested in learning more about auditioning for Shakespeare or who wishes to develop their audition skills is free to attend. As a side note, nearly all of the actors cast in last summer’s production of Romeo and Juliet attended that workshop (although it is not required).

Auditions Announced for The Mikado
Monday and Tuesday, June 23 & 24
Withycombe Hall at 7:00p
!Calling all singers, dancers, and actors!
Student auditions were held in May and there are still several roles available as well as chorus parts. The singing demands range from speaking on pitch to operatic. Principal and supporting roles and chorus members are all open for casting. All the music are available on-line.
Auditionees must be prepared with a solo from an operetta, opera, or musical theatre production. If the main solo is in a foreign language, an additional solo in English is required. An accompanist will be provided, but auditionees must bring sheet music for the pianist. (Please do not audition with unaccompanied solos.)
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes; the choreographer for the production Megan Matthes will be teaching everyone some simple steps.
Rehearsals for The Mikado will begin in late June, early July and run through the final performance on August 17. Cast members must also be available for the fall revival performances, October 3-5.
For further information please contact Richard Poppino at 737-5585 or the stage director Charlotte Headrick (737-4918).
