Pistol Club

If it is your first visit to Pistol Club this academic year, please bring $5 for the mandatory orientation and safety training and your OSU ID. Orientation and Safety training begins at 6:00PM (note there is a limit to the number of trainees per night for safety reasons and please be on time...or better yet early). For members who have been trained this academic year, the range generally opens about 7:00PM. We are located on the south-east corner of McAlexander Fieldhouse. We hang a sign that is visible when walking from the north on the Kerr Admin side. Please visit our website for important information about Pistol Club including a map to the range:

The OSU History Students Association is hosting a 70th Anniversary Swing Dance celebration of the 'Homefront" during WW II. The event will feature the Albany Swing Band, Corvallis Swing Dance Society, WW II re-enactors, a simulated radio broadcast, plus food and beverages. All are encouraged to dress in period appropriate clothing and to get into the spirit and style of the 40's. Doors open at 6:30 and dance lessons begin at 7:00. The band plays from 7:30 - 10:30. Tickets on sale in the SEAC office MU 103 = Tuesday March 18 until Friday April 4th. 

Welcoming Diversity: Valuing the Differences Among Us

This day-long workshop uses the award winning National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI) community building model. OSU's team of NCBI trained facilitators lead participants through a series of interactive exercises and conversations to assist them in identifying and understanding the impact of oppression and oppressive behaviors on themselves and others. Participants will be introduced to skills that can empower them to become more effective leaders and allies for others.   

Workshop goals include: identifying misinformation we have learned about others; identifying and express pride in groups we belong to; learning how other groups experience mistreatment; learning the personal impact of incidents of discrimination; and learning how to interrupt prejudicial remarks. 

Pre-registration required - 8:30am-4:30pm, Memorial Union Joyce Powell Journey Room.

Clothesline Project: T-shirt Display

The Clothesline Project began in 1990 to bring awareness to the issue of violence against women. Here at Oregon State, we are expanding the project to include all survivors and all gender identities. After creation, the decorated T-shirts are hung on a clothesline in the MU Quad with the intention to honor survivors and act as a memorial for victims.

"Preparing the Public Health Workforce for the 21st  Century" Lillian Shirley, BSN, MPH, MPA,  Director for the Oregon Public Health Division.

Ms. Shirley holds a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of the State of New York. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health from Boston University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Ms. Shirley has been a local and a national leader in advancing public health. Most recently, she led the Multnomah County Health Department. Before coming to Oregon, she was the Director of Public Health for the city of Boston and was also the first executive director of the Boston Health Commission, where she led the agency through the establishment, design and organization of the new public health authority in Boston.

Ms. Shirley has been a leader in Oregon’s effort to transform our state’s health care system. While at Multnomah County Health Department and on the governing board of Health Share of Oregon, she helped launch one of the first Coordinated Care Organizations in the state. She also served as the vice-chair of the Oregon Health Policy Board, and has played a vital role in the state’s move toward a health care system that works better for us all.

Ms. Shirley has served on the boards of the Public Health Foundation, the Oregon Public Health Institute, Portland Sustainable Development Commission and served as President of the National Association of City and County Health Officials. She is also adjunct faculty at the OHSU School of Medicine. She received the National Public Health Institute’s Balderson Award and has been recognized by Research America as a public health hero.

Founders Week Celebration

This event will be a celebration to end Founder's Week for Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc and Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity Inc. during the first week of Spring quarter. The event will take place in three parts: Triple S: Stroll, Salute, Step Competition: - Greek Organizations will have the opportunity to showcase their traditions for strolling, saluting and stepping for bragging rights and a small prize provided by the Unified Greek Council. This will be an opportunity for the OSu & Corvallis community to learn about these styles of dance and traditions that many multicultural organizations keep. Penguin for Prevention Cancer Workshop: - The Ladies of Kappa Delta Chi Sorority Inc will host a cancer prevention and awareness workshop for the OSU & Corvallis Community with materials sponsored and provided by the American Cancer Society. This workshop will also promote the OSU Relay for Life event that takes place in May. Founder's Week Dance: Lambda Theta Phi and Kappa Delta Chi will co-host a substance free & cost free dance following the performance and workshop to celebrate the end of our founder's weeks and welcome students back to school for Spring term. This will serve as a safe and fun \"after-party\" for the Triple S Competition. Climbing Wall Instructor Certification Course

This course provides an introduction to teaching climbing skills in an indoor climbing setting.  Students will be evaluated on both teaching and technical components and may earn certification through the Professional Climbing Instructors Association (PCIA). Prerequisites: 2-3 years climbing experience, or sufficient recently climbing to comfortably climb a 5.9 on top rope. Current skills check and 3-5 hours reading and prep work due before first class. Course will be held on Friday April 4, 5:00pm-9:00pm McAlexander Classroom then over to Indoor Climbing Centers till 10:00pm, Saturday April 5 and Sunday April 6, 8:00am - 5:00pm, McAlexander Classroom and Indoor Climbing Centers.
